Evaluation: Question 2

Overall I was able to create a clear brand idenitity. My use of fonts and colour schemes worked well together and were used consistantly within both, the trailer and ancillary tasks. Even the composition of the images i've used are consistant, as the order in which characters are stood are the same in the images for the magazine cover and the poster. As well as this the stance they've taken are similar in both images but not so similar that they're identical. When compared to an official movie poster it matches up well with 'This Means War' the cinematic font used at the bottom, the image composition, all of these help to make the poster look realistic and help to create a brand identity within all of my products.

Research: Audience Feedback

We showed our trailer to some of our target audience and gathered their responses, from this we were able to improve and develop our trailer to a higher standard.

  • The narrative is unclear and sometimes confusing. The trailer is uncoventional for a comedy film, it includes funny scenes however the narrative style is poor and lacks a real storyline. However the editing is is good, and the use of cutting helps the trailer to flow.

  • The storyline is badly thought out, it lacks real imagination. There is no real climax and the characters have nothing to work towards throughout the trailer. This trailer does not explain enough about the film and would not persuade me to go and watch it.

  • I enjoyed the cutting between the scenes, it was very conventional for a comedy film. A few of the scenes included alot of comedy for example the 'Gangnam Style' scene. However the storyline could have been better as the narrative was very unclear.

  • The trailer was well constructed however could have included more conventional ideas. The narrative and storyline isn't clear. The various settings and costumes used however are good as it gives it a sense of reality.

  • Some of the scenes included were funny however the weren't really relevent and confused the storyline. Also the repeated bathroom scenes, although added comedy, didn't really fit in and had no real purpose within the narrative.
We have taken all this feedback on board and we're going to produce a new, clearer narrative and storyline to help make our trailer more conventional.

Summary: Survey Results

Question 1 - How old are you?
Over two thirds of my audience were between the ages of 15 and 17 years old. This means that the results of this survey have been influenced greatly by teenagers. Therefore I would be creating a comedy film that is aimed at, and incorporates their ideas and views on comedy.

Question 2 - What's your gender?
There wasn't a vast difference between the amount of males and females that took the survey. However due to the fact there were more females than males I would have to consider this when going through the results, to make sure this is not dominated by one gender.

Question 3 - What is you favourite Comedy Film?
I've got a variety of results from this question, however their were certain films that stood out, e.g. Inbetweeners, Shaun of the Dead, Mean Girls, Bad Teacher, Bridesmaids and Forgetting Sarah Marshall. I hope to take various features of these comedies and incorporate them into my trailer.

Question 4 - Why do you like this film?
I got many different responses to this as it was an open question, therefore alot of different responses were posted. The main points were that it needed to include characters that helped create the comedy moments, had to include embarrassing humour and ultimately it needed to make people laugh. A few of the respones included:
'Good comedy, spoken and visual. Music fits the action well.' (Bad Teacher)
'Zombie Comedy is absolutely hilarious, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost work really well together. It is also full of catchy one liners.' (Shaun Of The Dead)
'Lots of subtle jokes, and some not so subtle. No matter how often I see it, it still makes me laugh.' (Inbetweeners)

Question 5 - How long should the trailer be?
Over half of the audience that took my survey felt that the trailer should be between 90 seconds and 119 seconds long, (A minute and a half to two minutes long). This time frame gives us a long period to get the most out of our trailer and it will hopefully be long enough for us to entice people to come and view our film.

Question 6 - What music would you want to accompany the video?
I included a variety of options that the audience could vote for. I wanted to make sure I included a lot of different genres. Overall Indie and Pop came out as the top two genres. Therefore I aim to include both genres into my film trailer to try and use my audience research effectively.

Analysis of Promotion Package

The poster helps to promote the film as it gets the films name about and creates a hype for the film. Also it includes alot of the production information along the bottom in the small font. This helps to promote the production companies aswell as the film itself. The characters are simply dressed in casual clothes, these clothes are also worn by the characters within the movie trailer. The trailer helps to promote the film due to the fact it gives the audience a visual insight to the film, helps create more of a buzz. It gives us a glimpse of what will be in the film.

Film Magazine Front Cover Analysis: Inglourious Analysis

Inglourious
Typography: The font style used on this cover is basic sans serif font, this makes it clear and bold which is easier for the readers to see and read from a distance. Also the use of the bold military style font helps to relate it to the genre of the film which will entice readers. The different sizes used helps to make various coverlines stand out more, for example, 'Greatest Movie Moments' has been written in a larger font which makes it stand out more and is more likely to catch the eye.

Layout: The layout of the magazine cover is quite cluttered. There are lots of coverlines arranged all over the page and its quite hard to follow and a lot to take in at once. However this works well as you're more likely to stop and read it due to this unusual style. It does also follow the route of the eye as you run your eye along the top of the page then down through the image to the coverlines down the left hand side and then along the bottom to the main headline on the page 'Inglourious Epic Is Here' which is made larger to stand out as it's the main story and links to the image.

Colour: The colour scheme is well thought out as its rather metallic and ties in nicely with the image, so they've themed it to the story within the magazine. Also the font colours used are well thought out as the red could connote for the blood that would have been shed within the film also its usually associated with war and death. The red also stands out on the metallic background which helps to make it stand out more, however this is true of the white text as well, the white stands out on the background and therefore makes it easier to pick out and to read for the audience.

Images: The main image of Brad Pitt is supposed to come across as him being fierce but funny at the same time, this is done by the use of the knife he's holding however the strange facial expression is supposed to make you laugh rather than be afraid of the character. Also the rough old army coat he's pictured in suggests the nature of the film that it will be an action film however a hint of comedy will accompany it.

Mode of Address: They've included various buzz words like 'exclusive' to help make various pieces of information stand out more and entice people to buy the magazine and read more. However they've included rather informal words such as 'Wowser' this suggests that the magazine is aimed at teenagers and not the film addicts that would enjoy reading about the technical sides of the film, rather than the latest gossip about the actors within.

Conventions: The magazine has tried to change its appearance to adopt more of an action theme to it due to the nature of the film. This will have been done to try and persuade people who enjoy films of the action genre. Also the stereotypical use of buzz words and coverlines are techniques used consistently  by magazines to get people to notice the magazine and want to read the story's featured within the magazine.

Film Poster Analysis: Mean Girls

Film Poster Analysis: Get Him To The Greek

File:Get Him to the Greek.jpgGet Him To The Greek

Typography: The font style used is very bold and clear, this makes it easier to read which is useful on a movie poster as it needs to draw the audience in so they'll come and watch the film. Also the font colour of Red contrasting on the brown jacket in the image and the white contrasting well with the grey/blue background helps to make it stand out more to the readers which get passers by to stop and read it.

Layout: The posters organised well but a little boring with most of the main word content down the bottom and a large main image in the center which draws all the attention, also the placing of the two actors names at the top helps as first you see their names, then the picture of them and then the film title and other information. So it's laid out well there's just no real excitement to it, it's quite plain and simple, however very effective.

Colour: The colours used are rather plain and simple. There's no real colour, the costumes worn by the characters are simple and have no real colour to them, apart from the white and black stripes from Russell Brand's shirt, whereas Jonah Hill is in a rather bland coloured suit. However the dull colour scheme helps the words to stand out more like the title in red stands out on Jonah's brown suit, which will help it be easier to spot and read.

Images: The only image on this poster is the central image of Russell and Jonah, the composition is key as Jonah is supposed to be looking after rock star 'Aldous Snow' however the picture shows Russell (Aldous) standing over him looking the more dominant of the two, whereas Jonah (Aaron) looks worn out and scared. The image is able to draw peoples attention as they'll see the well known name of Russell Brand and want to know what he's been doing now, so they've used the big name to attract the audience.

Mode of Address:  The poster would mainly be aimed at the teenage or young adult demographic. This is because of the film content but also as many of Russell Brand's films are aimed at a younger audience due to his wild and crazy nature. However the poster contrasts the film, as the poster is calm and simple, whereas the film is hectic and wild, a bit like Russell himself.

To stop White doing this, Peter has to try and come up with $50,000 in time. After a failed car wash Joe, and his team of gym goers, Justin, Gordon, Owen, Dwight and Steve the Pirate decide to form a dodgeball team. However it doesn’t start off well as they lose to a group of girl scouts and their dreams look all but over, until they get through due to disqualification of the girls team for drug use.

After this, under the guidance of Patches O’Houlihan and the added addition of Kate, they manage to start winning and look like real competitors. Seeing that Average Joe’s have entered this tournament however White Goodman also decides to create a dodgeball team, made up of elite players. They both manage to reach the final of the tournament however the night before the match, Patches O’Houilhan is killed by a falling sign. This has a big effect on Peter and knocks his confidence a little before the big game.  He expresses his fear that the team will lose to Globo-Gym and shouts at Steve for his childish pirate persona, causing Steve to leave the team.

White offers Peter $100,000 for the deed to Average Joe's in a secret deal, which Peter accepts. The day of the final, Justin leaves to help his classmate Amber, who he is also in love with, with a cheerleading competition. This leaves Average Joe’s without enough members to compete in the final due to Steve, Peter and Justin’s absence. Peter has a chance encounter with a man in a bar, who encourages him not to give up on his team, but by the time Peter arrives Average Joe's has already been forced to forfeit the match. Although Gordon is able to find a loophole in the rules that can overturn the forfeit, if enough of the judges vote in favour of Average Joe’s. The judges rule that they be allowed to play so the match goes ahead.

After a fierce game, Peter and White are left on the court in a sudden death face off. Extraordinarily Peter decides to blind fold himself and is able to dodge Whites shot and then throw the ball straight at him, which means they won the championship and the $50,000 prize money they needed. White reveals the deal that Peter and him made, which is taken badly by the Average Joe’s team. However Peter explains that he used White’s $100,000 bribe to bet on Average Joe’s to win the game with the odds against them meaning they won around $5 million.

With the money Peter buys a controlling share of Globo-Gym, which now includes Average Joe’s Gymnasium and he fires White, who then goes on to become obese on junk food. The end of the match also sees the beginning of various relationships with Kate revealing that she’s bisexual as she kisses Peter and her girlfriend, Justin also gets together with Amber and Owen begins dating Fran from Globo-Gyms team.

Reception and Success
Dodgeball received generally good reviews, with a 70% aggregate rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The film was made on a budget of $20million and got over $167,722,310 at box office. The film was a commercial success as it grossed over $30 million in its first week. The film then eventually went on to gross more than $114 million domestically.
